very helpful and common sense; incident happened on a weekend at my elderly father's house, and i had no experience with torsion springs and door openers; video turned what was a concerning situation with the only car being trapped inside the garage into a minor nuisance of opening the door with some minor manual effort

Who's idea was the garage door spring ? What a horrible way to open a door ..with pulleys and cable just rig a counter balance box ,and mount it on a wall somewhere on tracks with stops on the bottom and top .. springs nowadays are junk ..and so last century ..its about a 100 times safer ,dinosaur technology ..

hmmm.... I tried this method for the 1st time and it got tighter and wouldn't come off. I removed the "dust cap" off 1st with a 10mm, then removed to inner with an 8mm and it came of easy. I wonder why your method didn't work for me? I'm just glad I got it off, but still wonder......
